Forse l'avevo già suggerito a qualcuno ma per completezza lo aggiungo qui:

visto anche il recente aiuto al boss @TheBaro a chi servisse questo link alla loro wiki rasenta la perfezione:

Se si eseguono tutti i passi (sembra complicato ma è spiegato molto bene e basta fare quello che c'è scritto :D) si ottengono dei grandissimi risultati.

Per mia esperienza personale aggiungo questo circa la configurazione del groovymame:
in questo punto della guida linkata sopra (https://wiki.batocera.org/batocera-and- ... groovymame)
vengono fatti creare i file del mame e fatti spostare in una directory .mame per poi modificarli affinchè la lettura dei font quando si apre il classico menu sia leggibile anche a basse risoluzioni.

Senza questo passaggio giochi piu' datati presenterebbero un menu davvero poco leggibile. Ovviamente sono accortezze che Calamity aveva già pubblicato perchè valide per tutti i groovymame

Seguendo la guida non ero riuscito cmq a farlo funzionare, ho risolto cosi:
da un qualunque pc windows sappiamo che è possibile accedere allo share di batocera (uno share samba utilizzato soprattutto per copiare bios e roms da pc windows)
accedendo allo share (\\ip_batocera\share\ ) abbiamo le classiche cartelle di cui sopra
una di queste cartelle (in generale poco usate) è system, entrando li dentro troveremo (abilitare le cartelle nascoste di windows) anche la cartella .mame (creata nella guida con i file mame ui e plugin .ini) modificati dalla guida

questi 3 file io li ho copiati anche nello share\system\configs\mame\ini

fatto questo, magia tutto sarà leggibile.
