Penso sia anche piu' semplice trovare tutto l'occorrente e, cosa non da poco, tutto super collaudato.
Non penso poi sinceramente che Seven in questo contesto introduca migliorie significative.

Se il tuo sistema è recente puoi usare win7.
Se no, usa WinXP (più leggero del 7 e più compatibile con hw datato), prova con MicroXP così risparmi molta memoria ed il sistema parte (quasi) immediatamente.

Io uso XP con SP2 o SP3 (dipende da cosa ci vuoi far girare) e dopo l'installazione elimino un po di programmi inutili e stoppo i servizi che non mi interessano.
Micro XP l'ho provato anni fa ma lo sconsiglio, è troppo micro e gli mancano alcuni pezzi di windows x far girare i programmi ed installare driver, poi dipende sempre dall'uso che uno ne fa

Ci dovrà girare solo il MAME.. Linux no perchè non lo conosco e non ho troppa voglia di smanettarci sopra, quindi sarebbe meglio un xp sp3 con eliminati tutti i programmi inutili e con bloccati i servizi che non mi interessano..
